They aren't better just edgier. Red is the color of the root chakra. Blue is the color of the throat chakra, a higher chakra. So the reason why they are "cooler" is because the red color makes you think a certain way. All of us are hardwired this way so unless you are aware it will have a subtle subconscious effect on your mind. I like Mega Man, X, and Sonic better than the character you posted. They are cool sidekick or friend/support character though.
