The Shin Megami Tensei series is pretty well known. The post apocalyptic settings, mythological basis, and monster collecting aspect make it pretty unique.

Yeah, SMTII is a weird mix of strange, sort of interesting, and just ridiculous. Overall I feel it's a stronger ge then SMTI but I think I still prefer SMTI personally. SMTI alsp has ridiculous shit, but I enjoy the atmosphere there more.

I still need to play it, I have beat SMTI, SMTII, and KMT though. I've heard mixed things about If... but I'm excited to play it and Majin Tensei II eventually when I have more time.
