I have only played the first Alone in the Dark and I think it is an experience worth having. Even back in the 90s, my cousins and I found the game more funny than scary. Especially with how goofy the playable characters looked which didn't help with their goofy slapping and dumber ungraceful kicks. Sword swinging was silly looking too, reminding me the laughs from making the pirate fucking somersaulting with every hit. The game is not long, but not only was it funny it did provide me a level of comfort in controls when I did first played the original Resident Evil.

The house is large, and I don't think the flames would exert that sudden expansion of force outwards unless it reaches a greater source of energy like some chemical tanks. The flames could work upwards and engulf the house, but aside from some tanks, it shouldn't look like the Hollywood styled explosions. I imagine it would look more like those trees that are burning from the inside due to a lightning strike. Since it only started from a lantern fire, maybe the supernatural could cause it to blow up but it was never shown, only just the start of the burning.

They both look great to me. Some southern creepiness and darkness really sets the mood. Would be nice to remix in a GC RE1 way to mess with expectations. I do agree that 2008 one should not have gone with QTE, as I would prefer how it was in the original where you had the option to awkward kick or slap those first two monsters or run away if they were not blockaded from entry.

It was goofy in its day too. With the lady unarmed, her kicks were hilarious to me, and I used it on those enemies. What makes the game stand out well to me is the general vibe, setting, and mystery.

That's it! The videos match up to what I remembered. It was pretty cool and a great setup for horror in setting and scenario.

The mainline games get all the attention, but I think the side titles are pretty good too. They do something different, but they do take advantage of the universe created by the mainline games. Capcom still brings it with the cuties.

As much as I like the remake, I still love the original which is unique enough that it really sets up the fake-outs and surprises the remake offered, such that it is worth the revisits. After seeing the impressive work on https://www.reshdp.com/re3/ I thought why couldn't the same thing be done with the original 1.

Yeah, it was a different time when there would be a bin of discount PC games at the grocers. Publishing was much different prior to the modern convenience of digital distribution. Nice to have something physical to come back to if a connection is not available.

Have not checked any Japanese stores since the pandemic. They used to be really cheap because PC popularity diminished so they were uncommon finds, but not in high demand.

I strangely would want this. I guess the closest I ever got were those Outbreak games which would work better in that kind of scenario.

I remember exploiting this with my original playthroughs on Playstation. It is why I valued being able to knife my way through most of the game and conserve ammo. It was one of those things of the remake which I cannot be as efficient with the knife.

I still want to play the sequels. I don't recall Atari doing much anymore, last game I played of theirs was Bulletwitch. The first AitD still has the mood with the harsh Yamaha sounds from the Soundblaster.
