Not really, it's not much different from the analog version from the old days where they were trying to figure out color TV.
It literally had a spinning wheel with 3 or 4 colors in front of it that was in sync with the framerate, giving the illusion of color. This is basically the digital version of that.

Cheap projectors also use that principle, they literally spin a wheel in front of a black and white projected image before it leaves the projector to change color of each frame it displays.
