Maybe I didn't word that the best way. Yes I agree, the most popular Eva game, or at least was in the past is Mana's game but, Evangelion 64 was like the "dream come true" actual Evangelion video game where Evas in 3D actually looked good, and you could fight the angels, it wasn't a visual novel, it felt like the first "proper" video game, if that makes any sense. Like "Evangelion: The Video Game", it ended up not really living up to the hype in terms of gameplay, although variety helps make the pacing better, there's not really a lot of depth here, it's mainly a tech demo to showcase really cool recreations of Evangelion with late 90s 3D technology implemented well. I think both Eva 64 and GoS are the 2 games I think of when I think Evangelion. The raising games are fine, but they're basically Eva versions of Princess Maker. There's also all these Shinji and friends and mahjong games with crossovers, but if I think Eva video games, it's these two. I think a lot of people were aware of Eva 64 back then, too. It was hard to get your hands on the real game, but I remember multiple anime magazines reported the game, and some even included short video clips of the game on CD-ROMs for PC. If you had access to the internet in 1999, many Eva fansites also talked about the N64 game and had screenshots. It was a very hyped game.
However, I think both games had kind of faded into obscurity. It's especially weird for GoS, because Mana used to be a really popular character. Nowadays not many people know about her, and only diehard fans care enough to look for fan translated VNs.
Speaking of GoS, a Sonic mug appears at Misato's home. I can't remember if this was on the PS version, but I snapped this off the PC version. GoS wasn't really a Sega published game, it was Gainax self-published on PC and later ported to consoles, but it still had that nod to Sega.

I took this screenshot from the PC version of Girlfriend of Steel.
I can't remember if it's also on the PlayStation version, but it probably is.
