Seriously. I haven't found any good explanation.
The hardware was clearly ready by 97, there was the fucking NOA unit found that wasn't a prototype, but was a retail test unit.
What the actual goddamn fuck happened? It's not like there weren't shitloads of titles in development for it, over 100 titles were shitcanned for the thing. It's gotta be a fucking lot more than just "oh, cart sizes got bigger" that's bullshit and you fucking know it. That's why big games moved from disk to cart but it ignores the countless features exclusive to the drive. It ignores the thing was ready to fucking ship long before things moved to carts.
