One could conceivably arrange configurations for each core in RetroArch and dutifully set one's output on BSNES to 60.09476 as well as in PowerStrip or CRT_EmuDriver. Vsync would be disabled and you would output a 256x240 (224 with black borders masked by overscan?)

We get now into the problem of Line Doubling. Windows can't do this with SwitchRes/GroovyUME, but Linux and the liveUSB/CD can. This would be a 512x240(224) output to account for the SNES's high resolution mode. In normal games, GroovyUME knows to double the lines.

Despite MESS not having full compatibility with the SNES, their emulation philosophy (accurate to every chip) is the same as that of BSNES. Here it is running Donkey Kong Country completely native on a European SCART TV with a VGA to SCART cable and GroovyUME.
