Alright /vr/, here's a challenge for you.

None of us are game developers, but as players, we've come to expect a certain level of quality. We've seen and played the best, and extrapolated what worked and what didn't. It's not unreasonable to assume now that we have at least an inkling of our "ideal" game(s).

My question concerns RPGs in particular of any kind. What I want to know is, what particular elements of retro games have stood out as being the strongest, and when combined in a certain way, would produce the greatest RPG the world has ever seen?

What happens when you take SaGa's progression, Deus Ex's level design, SMT's combat, Planescape: Torment's roleplaying system, Chrono Trigger's combat, Fallout's worldbuilding and story-telling, FFVII's character development, Daggerfall's scale, Oracle of Ages' puzzles, Phantasy Star Online's graphical presentation, and so many more elements, and combine it all into what one may consider the Ultimate RPG? Or, can these even be considered the cream of the crop in terms of what they offer?
