Socket A/462 AMD CPUs like the Athlon and Athlon-XP are just fine, even better than the Pentium III/4. The biggest issue would be that you need a PSU with a strong 5v rail, but it appears that the board you have has a 4pin for the CPU to provide 12v power, so you can use just about any PSU with that.
Radeon cards aren't exactly terrible either, just usually had worse drivers. For one brief generation, they were even on top (even if some of that has to do with Nvidia fucking up big time with the FX series)
I would probably recommend a GeForce 4 Ti or FX since you're going with a 98 build, though. Plus it just feels weird to use an ATI card on an nForce mobo.
