In the special stages, Tails moves behind you with a slight delay, and he can easily bump into bombs and cost you rings. It's like driving a semi truck, you have to account for the movement of the trailer.

When I was younger, I had it set up so that the same keyboard buttons controlled Player 1 and Player 2. Tails' movements were always perfectly in sync with Sonic's.

When people complain about Tails running headfirst into bombs in the Special Stages, I just smile a little. Without the delay in movement, Tails doesn't lose any rings; but he also doesn't pick any up, since he's always right behind you.

These stages are fucking bullshit. I've been playing this for 20+ years and this is the only part of the classic Sonic games I absolutely can't stand
