Never played a Metal Gear (Solid) game before, where should I start?

It was the perfect balance of Mom not giving a shit what I watched or played and having amazing movies and games around the house.

Bought myself a PSOne the other day. I already had 2 Playstations, but for some reason, I fell in love with the little machine. I was a Nintendo fanboy growing up, and still am sometimes as far as collecting goes.

Anyway, I got the original Metal Gear Solid the other day, I was surprised to see it was 2 disks. I've never played a MGS game before, but everyone says they're great.

I'm about 9.5 hours into it. I was wondering how long it would take to get to the second disk. I just beat the Shaman with the minigun. I must say, the story and gameplay in this is fantastic. Gun mechanics are a little wonky, but it reminds me a lot of Resident Evil games. So far, I friggin love the game though.
