i recently moved to linux and was thinking because im kinda starting over in terms of programs i use, should i just get retroarch instead of multiple different emulators? Seems more convenient to have everything in one spot thinking about it.

Is there anything shitty about retroarch that im not informed on? Ive seen alot of people give it shit so im a little cautious, also what are the most accurate cores?
also where can i get the crt shaders and stuff i see all the cool kids use

Is there even a single valid argument against emulation for fifth gen and earlier games?

Does original hardware even have a single advantage besides some vague concept of ""muh accuracy!!"" that you can't even name a single example of and literally couldn't tell the difference side-by-side even after extensive testing?

Many people here seem to disregard or despise your opinion if you're a "zoomer" that played old consoles you missed out on a emulators because you weren't in "the moment" (aka being brainwashed by "so rad" commercials and hating the other console that wasn't yours) but I think people like me have superior, non tainted by nostalgia and more unbiased views over the games that we basically played all at the same year with unbiased views.

For example if you ask me which is better between the snes and genesis I can easily say snes got me dozens of classics that I played non stop for days while the genesis barely had anything worth playing for more than 20 minutes...
>B-But you suck at action games like all zoomies
No I just don't find games that get repetitive quick fun, honestly all sonics were pretty mediocre compared to Mario 3, if I had to choose the best genesis game it would be bloodlines.
>NO NO NO It's not the same because you didn't have friends like I used to do when I was 10!!
Oh but I did, and we had more playing Mario 3 per turns than any snes or genesis game, we also could play arcades without having to go to a shitty place.

Any more emuchads here?

Do you use retroarch or do you have separate emulators for each system? If you are of the latter category, what's your reason?

I just downloaded retroarch on my ellipsis 8 tablet and it isnt working. I cannot click on anything or scroll through the menu without the notification headers being down on my screen. I installed a core by repeatedly swiping my notification bar down but it still won't run games. I've downloaded the app from the play store, unistalled it and downloaded it again off the web. Same issue. I've gone to developer options and allow a pointer overlay and the touch screen is receiving the correct inputs from me. This video https://youtu.be/twA03teKBpM is exactly what I'm experiencing but it doesn't help. I've read a few others have had this issue but I can't find a solution. Any ideas

Is it preferable to use Retroarch or specific emulators? Does it depend on the system?

How do I configure N64 controls to use on an XBox 360 controller? This is so confusing :(

what would you do if neither emulation nor flash carts existed? Would you become what you hate?

Break it down for me, anon. I'm an idiot still using snes9x and nestopia simply because they work.

Someone enlighten an ignorant plebian and explain the difference between Emulation Station, Retroarch, and Retropie.

Alright, I'm trying Retroarch for the first time, and while I'm able to play the games and use my saves from other emus and so on, there are some settings I'm trying to access/tweak and I was wondering if anyone knew how, since I'm getting nothing from google.

1. How do I access cheats? I usually just brute force my way with Cheat Engine when an emu doesn't have cheats and I want to use them for whatever reason, but the Retroarch settings can download cheat database files. How do I access them?

2. Can I manually assign thumbnails to my games? It's annoying that hacks and fixes (like the Super Mario All Stars brick physics fix) mean Retroarch no longer recognizes them as a "proper" game. I'd like to manually restore their thumbnails if possible, I regularly apply translations, hacks and fixes so this makes the rom list look messy.

3. More of a curiosity, is there any point to the music/video player features? The music one opens up with this huge visualization that I want to turn off but can't seem to be able to, and the video player just... plays videos. Is this like an extra or is there a point to it?

4. The most important thing, is there ANY way to more easily navigate the rom list? Keyboard doesn't work for this (ie I can't jump to "Zelda" by pressing "z"), and it seems all I can use is the arrow keys and page up/down. Hardly useful when you have a full romset, there MUST be a way around this. It's driving me nuts, and it's actually keeping me from using Retroarch since it's such a hassle to select a rom unless it starts with "a".

Thank you guys.
