I don't even mind things shifting away from the 90s look on principle by why does "modern" always have to be "bland." I admit I don't know much about art. But I know what I hate. And I hate that. But things always just look so flat or uninteresting colorwise. Characters who are supposed to be heroic and fantastical come off as simple and plain and, for want of a better word, contemporary. Look at the langrisser remake and it feels like with a slight change of wardrobe most of the characters wouldn't be out of place in a modern high school anime. The MC in the "updated" art goes from a striking heroic figure to a dork in a school uniform. It's a tragic cry when the gacha game has more respectful art.

How in the hell does the shitty mobile game look better than the actual remake? Im glad they give you to option to play classic style but I really have to ask why they think anyone wouldn't.
