Not retro, but the freeware 3DS game Saikyou Card Battle has a detailed tutorial and little deckbuilding, so it's quite forgiving for absolute newcomers.
Tour Guide From The Underworld does the tutorial; she's so cute.

If you'd like to play something retro and fun and don't want to learn a lot of complicated rules, Capsule Monster Coliseum on the PS2 is much simpler and is has voice acting from the dub.
