I was casually playing Donkey Kong Country 2 like i had done hundreds of times before. On the last level (Top-Sail Trouble) in Gangplank Galleon when i made it to the finish with Diddy, his boombox turned gold and had a big ruby on the front.
I got so excited i called my brother over but just stood there wondering, asking what was going on. I keep shouting for him to get the fuck over here, once he is at the TV the level is over and no one believed me.

Found out that this is a graphic/color glitch that can be triggered. One level it can be triggered is on Hot-Head Hop in Crocodile Cauldron.

Is DKC2 still the best Donkey Kong game?

I often see the DKC games get criticized because they think the gameplay is mediocre, and that it only gets attention because of the presentation. I don't agree with that. While the controls or foundation of the game aren't inherently interesting, like Mario, the games have top-notch level design and great challenge. It seems like the levels always throw something unique at you, and the near-perfect timing you need is great fun.

Are these games considered difficult? I beat them, but I recall some levels giving me ridiculous frustration.

Can we all agree that Donkey Kong Country is one of the greatest gems of retro gaming? They're so impressive in terms of aesthetics, music, and game design - even DKC3, which is typically considered a misstep in the series - manages to be an amazing game and a must-own.

I've been replaying the series over the past week, and I'm really learning to appreciate all of the games a lot more - especially DKC1, which I thought was the worst in the series as a kid.

So, uh, talk about DKC?

Favorite levels? Favorite tracks?

Ugh... I didn't really like Avatar. And I went with my brother. He's my movie partner.

back to the topic, isn't it weird that I feel sad about knowing all there is to know about Rockman 7 but not about having nothing new to discover about Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2 and other games I love?

Why does everyone seem to prefer DKC2 over DKC? I'm playing through the DKC series and am on 2, and I don't see what the big deal is. The controls are much less precise than in the original, but that's at least balanced by Trixie's ability to glide, which trivializes most of the platforming. My biggest gripe is the atmosphere; DKC had great ambient music and great looking levels. Everything so far in 2 just feels sinister, and it looks like the rest of the game is gonna stick with that theme. I'm only on the third world (the swamp), does it get better?

Also, DKC GENERAL

This game just totally amazes me. It seems like every level has something new and compelling to offer. It's all just so smart and well designed. Feels like one of the most polished and refined games I've played. It's interesting how many ideas there are - the honey climbing, ghost ropes, blowing wind, and it all feels so tight. And the soundtrack is just so, so good. Creates amazing ambiance.

Thoughts on DKC2?

So what does /vr/ think about Donkey Kong Country 2? I've been told by multiple people that it's better than DKC1, and I have the opportunity to buy it at this store for $15.
