yes, but i forgot to mention the fact that both games behaves differently, even when map remakes in it are involved Q1 E1M1 remake behaves differently in Q2 due to physics and the long dead hipnotic remake was peculiarly hard due to Q2 Monster Behavior
And one game had years of circlejerk after the death of planetquake to get where it is, while the other had to deal with a divided community inbetween MP only players, and the SP mappers who left the game for other stuff, even gaming development.

it gets even worse is that Q1 is going the same way too very soon since there is no new blood, and its always the same people making the same repeated maps after AD.
With a few good exceptions, with one being Dwell Episode 1 which had even markie in it.

But In the end, both had great maps, but things really changed when AD came out, and you can thank the Q1 community for having a spine and removing the dreaded map limit for Q1 to make it Happen, while Q2 has to deal with Yamagi purists, Kirk's autism on Q2xp part, and Knightmare being a good port out of Q2E's original source + his 3.24 patch but rarely used, mostly because its rare to see anyone using it along with the Lazarus addon to add more stuff, even unique effects. Which the only person who i saw using it was milous for his slaughtermaps http://www.quake2.xf.cz/
