Hello, /vr/. I'm trying to decide how to top off my NES collection. I keep all my games in ex-rental cases, and I have only a couple of cases left. I haven't yet decided what last two games to buy so I can fill them. I may try to hunt down additional rental cases in the future, but for the time being, I'd like to round down some of my game choices.

Games I already own:

Dragon Warrior
Dragon Warrior II
Gauntlet
Gradius
IronSword
Legacy of the Wizard
Star Soldier
Tetris 2
Ultima: Exodus
Ultima: Quest of the Avatar
Wizards & Warriors
Zanac
Zelda II

Games I'd like to own:

Castlevania
Castlevania III
Battle of Olympus
Fantasy Zone (but I already have Fantasy Zone Complete Collection for PS2)
Ghosts 'n Goblins
Life Force
Nobunaga's Ambition, or a similar Koei strategy game
Wizards & Warriors III

Games I probably won't consider:

Contra series - Played them to death. Beaten both Contra and Super C 40+ times. I may consider Super C if I can find it really cheap.

Dragon Warrior III or IV - Too expensive, and two Dragon Warrior games are probably enough for my library.

Final Fantasy 1 - Beaten it more times than I can count, and I already have both FF Origins and Dawn of Souls.

Mario series - I have them on GBA, and I've already played them to death. Considering how easy the series is, there's not much incentive to replay.

Metroid - Have too many ports of it already, and have beaten it several times.

Simon's Quest - Didn't care for it. I beat it once and lost interest. The world is just too dull.

Tetris (1) - Didn't care much for the original formula. I thought Tetris 2 was a substantial improvement over it. Plus Tetris 2 has two-player and vs. CPU modes.

Zelda 1 - Already beaten it 20+ times, and I have two emulated ports of it on other consoles.

Is it even worth it to play NES games nowadays?
Honest question.

Sup /vr/. I picked up an NES today and connected it to my flatscreen TV using the RF cable. I put in a game and I get a solid gray screen. I cleaned the game with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol and still no go. I've read that this may be related to the 72 Pin connector, and I have a 90 day warranty on it so I would have no qualms with having it replaced. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I have skimmed a large majority of the NES and Famicom library for games I like and put them on a flash cart. In total I have 358. If you guys know any games I might not have seen that you guys like but aren't very well known, I'd like to see them.

I really do hate NES controllers. The d-pad wiggles around and the rubber pads tear easily from even casual use. Has anybody ever made an updated NES controller with modernized buttons that works on an actual NES?

A while ago I downloaded Megaman 2 from the Wii's Virtual Console. When I first started it up I was quite perplexed as to why I wasn't feeling quite in control of the game. Something felt off, weirdly inprecise and laggy. I checked some stuff on the internet and learned about the whole 50Hz PAL business that makes european retro games stand out (17% slower, etc.) from their American counterparts if not optimized.

Thing is, I live in Germany. I want to get into old NES games, however most of the footage that I know and see online is of American NTSC versions. As such, playing PAL versions feels slow and unnatural to me. Not to mention that I actually have an Asian Version NES with Super Mario Bros. which runs at 60Hz (that is the only game I have though, and they are very hard to find).

So I'd like to ask you guys - as a guy sitting in Europe - what ways are there for me to get my hands on NTSC 60Hz versions of retro games?

These are the alternatives I could think of so far:

- buying an American NES and appropriate power adapters, but importing these things is incredibly expensive and time-consuming in the long run

- waiting for Nintendo to release 60Hz versions of older games on the various Virtual Consoles, which may never happen for Europe

- buying some third party region free retro gaming machine (one of those NES/SNES/MegaDrive multisystems)

- emulation, which I'm not a big fan of though

- fucking myself and giving up

No particular order:

NES
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Contra
Dragon Warrior IV
DuckTales
Legend of Zelda
Mega Man 2
Metroid
Mother
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
Super Mario Bros.

Hey /vr/. So I just got $80, and I wanna buy an NES. Tomorrow, I'll be going to some thrift stores, where I could find one for ~40 if I'm lucky, but chances are I won't find one there. A local game store is selling a restored one for $60 bucks. Is that a good price? Or can I find them for lower? If I but them from this store, they're garunteed to work. Also, what are some games you'd reccomend to buy with it? Assuming I'm spending $60 on it, I'd have a $20 budget on the games. I already have Super Mario Bros 2, Mario/Duckhunt, Double Dragon 2, and several other, less notable games.

I need help with a NES that I just bought. It does the whole blinking light song and dance and loads games but barely works. I can get my cart of Legend of Zelda to work, but nothing else. Some games I pulled it apart and cleaned the 72 pin connector with some rubbing alcohol.

Should I replace my 72 pin connector, or does this sound like a NES 10 pin problem?

Ok guys, was going to post this at /diy/no's place, but guess I should start here for better answers.
Moved to new house and found old NES around. I know the bastard can still live, they are tough, but I'm completely ignorant here.

I mean, it's not visibly broken, insides may be allright, rusty and dusty as fuck, but hope it's no big deal; it's bended at the cover inlet, but nothing serious.

I'm handy when it comes to DIY and exploring electronic devices, but this is the first time I want the test subject to actually survive the experiment.

He's rusty and all, but I'm shure it can be revived with a little effort, but as I said, I'm not really trained for teh job. Do you know where to start asking? I've got many questions about the electric stuff, which appears to be teh first problem.

Any thing you got will count guys.

Even the emulation of nes on pc is near perfect, the problem of roms makes it totally unplayable for platformers. I mean that screen flickering and the frame problems on sides IT IS KILLING ME. Do you know any solutions for this ?
