This is not fun. It's just brickwall after brickwall, you never know where to go and when you find something new it's another brickwall. The best part is the action and there's just these long moments of running around in circles banging your head until something works inbetween new challenges. Gotta love it when you are in the right place doing the right thing but for some reason it doesn't work so you assume you have to come back later with an item and just end up wasting your time. Metroid 2 was a better experience, shit even Metroid 1 was more enjoyable, because other than one bullshit part you're always making some progress.

There is not a single game in the Metroid genre that can match this masterpeice. Not within it's own series, and sure as hell not outside it.

It is absolutely embarassing that nothing as good as this has been made since 1994.

>Axiom Verge
>some of the most boring abilities and weapons with absolutely no weight behind movement
>Hollow Knight
>movement options are all boring and slow as shit and navigating the world is a chore
>only difficult bosses are in the DLC and it's because they just throw saws and shit everywhere
>Environmental Station Alpha
>indie pixel shit

La-Mulana is maybe close but I feel that's almost it's own thing.

Does anyone remember some kind of reverse-engineered PC port of Super Metroid from the early-mid 2000's?

I'm not sure if a reverse engineered PC port is actually what it was since it was so long ago, but I recall it was abandoned pretty early on. It was mostly non-functional (the only rooms you could access were a few in Crateria and old Brinstar) and had a mostly non-functional level editor and also had its own forum dedicated to it.

Oh yeah, and Samus was green for some reason.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'd like to know what exactly the full story behind it is and what happened to it.

Considering the title screen, opening, and the incredible amount of detail, atmosphere, gameplay scale, secrets, exploration, etc in this game it felt like it was on a different planet back in 1994. And it's the only retro game i own that i feel nostalgia plays no role in my opinion of it, it's still that great of a game today.

I find the atmosphere is amazing but I just don't feel that interested to explore, and usually give it up after an hour.

I thought Stunt Race FX was amazing when i played it as a kid. I got my hands on a copy not too long ago, slapped in in my snes and... it sucks. So yeah ive been there.

Tho i never really have to worry about feeling this way with my favorite game because it's pic related.

I played this game when i was younger with an original SNES, it had really good stages and the atmosfere was tense (also good music), it had a nice variety of "powers", also the bosses where exciting to fight. What are your thoughts?

>basically a perfect game
Ocarina of time was the first to do many things, but it has been one upped so hard by so many things since in every aspect.

The only game that ever came close to being perfect was pic related. It's execution was incredible and nothing in the same genre has topped it.

But it's not totally perfect, nothing is. if i had to nitpick, it would be that some upgrades are under utilized, get that part of SM's design is that certain things are optional (x-ray scope for instance, or power bombs.) But give me a reason to go get them, give me more reasons to use them. Also, some of the bosses are way to easy to cheese. I love to play it again all the time, but aside from Ridley, all of the bosses are complete pushovers or can be beaten with a trick.
