I'm happy to see this title getting more love, it's such a good time and a NES classic for me. it was hard to go wrong with Disney and Capcom then, of course I get the complaints some have that it can be a bit too easy and/or short, but I feel like that's part of the appeal, it's comfortable to play, and that could be hard to find on the NES then. I wish we could've gotten more like this one then.

I hope you have a good time finishing it, anon!

I recall there being 5 levels, all quite different in aesthetic and how they play, their gimmicks and the enemies you might face, it's perfect to play with your kids since it's so accessible, hope you both can enjoy it, just keep in mind that the last few levels do get less simple, nothing crazy still.

Disney's The Little Mermaid: Magic in Two Kingdoms (GBA)

I adore The Little Mermaid on NES, it was made by Capcom, so it makes sense that it was good, even the mediocre titles by BlueSky or Blitz, on SEGA's consoles and the PS1, I could find some enjoyment in, so I gave this one a shot... and it's the kind of thing you'd play on a browser in the early 2000's, the kind of slop people expect any "girl video game" to be like, so dull and boring.

The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (PS1)

It's nowhere near as good as the NES classic by Capcom... which is what I'd recommend if you'd never mentioned good replay value, since their title didn't have much of it, but this one... while worse in almost every way, is just as easy to go about playing it and winning, a comfortable to finish adventure that's got good atmosphere in most places, and has 100% completion to get.

It's one of the easiest titles on the whole library, but there's nothing wrong with that... it's meant to be a more comfortable playthrough, that's all, and it delivers. It looks and sounds superb for its time and hardware, and plays so well too, I grew up with the BlueSky title on Genesis and, while I think it's fine, it doesn't come close to Capcom's effort here, it deserves a playthrough for sure...

I miss this era, when Capcom would make Disney titles for Nintendo, while SEGA would make their own either in house or with 3rd parties, often we got a couple of good video games all at once.

>Post /vr/ games only you've played
I played the 1996 Master System port of Ariel: The Little Mermaid, ported by TecToy and only came out in Brazil... it's just the Game Gear one with a higher resolution, but everything happens within the space within Game Gear's screen size, though it's nice being able to see more, both of these versions are worse than the already subpar Genesis one, but they're shorter too, they're fine.

I see, sounds good! Thank you guys for clearing it up for me, I'm curious about it now, might give it a try later, the atmosphere especially looks nice.

What's funny is that I grew up with this one and actually find some enjoyment in it, I suppose that Ecco could be even better for me then. Thanks!

>What games from big companies feel like bootlegs?
BlueSky's Ariel: The Little Mermaid for Game Gear/Master System feels really cheap, like it went on to be outsourced by some Chinese company while BlueSky made the Genesis version, which also wasn't all that good. It's especially bad when you compare it to what Capcom made for Nintendo's 8-Bit consoles, Game Boy/NES The Little Mermaid if superb.

I miss 90's Disney video games, we had so many on NES, Master System, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Gear, SNES, Genesis and PS1... and then it just sort of stopped, with the exception of Kingdom Hearts, I'm happy to see that they've remastered this one, and released a new installment in the Illusion series that SEGA had in the 90's too.

We might be getting a bit of a revival, where Disney licenses their IPs for various video games again, though I'm trying not to get my hopes up, the 90's were really a magical time for this.

>I bet Bob Iger ordered Disney interactive to be shut down the way he did in 2014 because he didn't care about the further possibilities of Disney making more licensed IP-based games
Indeed, it really is a shame... I miss that time in the 3rd, 4th and 5th console generations when Mickey, Donald and Goofy had their video games, and also pretty much every major film, mostly in the renaissance era, had its adaptation, some in all 3 of those generations, like Little Mermaid.

>>10316364
I don't know if it's that bad for them just yet, but I'm sure investors expected more and I'm seeing more and more people fed up with Disney, even I'm fed up already, they suck quite hard now.

Indeed! It was made by Capcom afterall, back in the golden days where Capcom would make the Disney video games for Nintendo, and SEGA for their own consoles in-house... you had these top tier developers at the time making Disney, truly magical days that'll probably never come back...

Well, I can't argue with that... having an older sister who I watched pretty much everything with as a kid probably helped with my love for Disney, and in a way I'm quite glad that it did.

I never played this one, though it looks like it received the Capcom treatment too, how was this one to play? I don't even remember this license much to be honest, but that's on me.

>>10282003
I never played DuckTales or Darkwing Duck, though after seeing how much quality Capcom put into this, I have to check them out at some point... also, the Genesis stuff was often great.
