You try lugging around 300+ pounds of weapons, tools, and armor try to keep a sprint up at all times. You're only human in HD, after all.
If you strip off your armor and ditch your weapons, you'd be surprised how far and how fast you can sprint in HD. Getting berserk mixed in with this just takes it even further.

HD isn't terribly realistic, it's just detailed. I'd compare it to Space Station 13, like there's some real world logic used in some places but it's skewed where necessary for the sake of gameplay.
