It is unfortunately true that you might as well just always use physical attacks, unless the mechanics of the boss necessitate manipulating elements, or they're just resistant or something.

Even on a regular run and not NG+, I can have Serge and another powerhouse so ridiculously strong by the latter third of the game that I can cripple bosses within four turns spamming 2-2-3. Elements take an entire 7 for one spot of damage, so it's just not worth it unless you have a seriously magic-oriented character or the skill has some particularly good side effect, or you're pretty sure you can kill an enemy by running into the negatives. Although if you are using the 3rd character for this, you can just go back to the other two and it doesn't matter that the 3rd needs to recharge. But again, in most cases I don't even need that person, unless maybe it's Fargo/Kid/Mel or another utility character. Probably the best option.

Regardless, CC is a nice game in terms of aesthetics. Everything looks fantastic, and the music is Yasunori Mitsuda, so how can you go wrong (aside from the battle music)? The large roster is always cited as a "downside" because people aren't able to view it as simply a curiosity. I don't know if they saw a character like Poshul or Mojo and thought to themselves, "When am I going to see their dramatic backstory?!" Like, some of these characters are just there for the aesthetic/humor and for messing around in battle, stop trying to ascribe meaning to everything.
