LCDs have some advantages, but also some serious disadvantages, anon. They're a backlit display so their blacks will never be as "rich" as CRT/OLED/Plasma ('pure' black levels are generally accepted as a primary measure of picture quality), pixel response times and motion blur have been a consistent problem, and color reproduction is subpar compared to other tech. They are brighter and sharper than many other displays, which makes them good for computer applications. And of course they're light and energy-efficient. To people who give a damn about picture quality though e.g. home theater enthusiasts there are good reasons why they are not as popular.

Also just because you're better at Punch Out than your friend does not mean input lag is a myth. It can be minuscule but it happens on any display with digital processing, which nowadays is more or less all of them.
