Seriously this. Don't be fooled by "oh it's another mario sports title", Mario Golf on N64 is pure ludo.
Never played Mario Tennis, but I hear it's one of the most absolute popular titles of the N64 in Japan.

The game that features my wife Maple, of course. Mario Golf on Nintendo 64.

There's the best Golf game next to Neo Turf though: mario golf, and it has an excellent mini golf mode.

Pretty much yeah, some of the characters aren't even from the Mario universe. The devs are the original Shining Force devs, which is weird as fuck (or not really because they cramed a lot of RPG stuff in the GBC titles).
Mario Golf on N64 is more arcade though, and I guess it's kind of a spiritual successor to the original Golf on NES and Game Boy (I never liked the NES Golf much, but played the shit out of the GB one)
Anyway Mario Golf on N64 is one of my favorite Golf games ever, only surpassed by Neo Turf Masters.

Mario Golf on N64 was really good though, one of the funnest Golf games I've played.
There's also the GBC Mario Golf which I haven't played but was also developed by Camelot and I heard good things about it.

Mario Golf on N64 is a great game.
The only Mario Tennis game I played is the Virtual Boy one, not bad actually.

Mario Golf is ridiculously fun, especially playing with friends. The mini golf stages, man.

But I'd say the best Golf game I've played is Neo Turf Masters.
Golf (aka T&E Golf) on the Virtual Boy is also surprisingly good, believe it or not.

There's also the Hotshots series on playstation, but I only played one on PS3 which is not retro. It seemed a lot like Mario Golf.
