Turns out I never recalled the Devil Doomass dialogue where Eggman retcons the SA2 ending by claiming he "sent one of his robots to save him" and that he's "the real ultimate lifeform my grandfather created", but there's a few issues I have with this:

1: Eggman somehow had the foresight to build a robot for catching bodies falling from the ARK (there's gotta be a story there...)

2: How is a robot going to catch Shadow when he's already falling through the atmosphere at terminal velocity well after any sort of bot is visibly chasing him? He'd be too far away.

3: The air friction on a purpose built Shadow-catching bot would have to be at least a bit larger than Shadow himself, which compounds the issue of air friction, heat dissipation, and the catching mechanism itself. The physics are all wrong here.

4: Super Shadow teleports the Black Comet into space, however the lack of flashing Chaos Control light when the ARK fires upon the Black Comet would show Chaos Control has cooldown time.

5: There is no way he managed to evade the ARK blast and get back on the ship unless he teleported there with Chaos Control, meaning he would need to be super in the final scene. Since he isn't, we can only imagine that's not the first Shadow that teleported the comet.

All that considered, I can't help but imagine Eggman was lying about saving his original self to soothe his internal doubts so he could act unencumbered with his self-doubt over being the "true ultimate lifeform". Besides, why would he need to say he's the real deal unless there was a real possibility that he wasn't? Fuck you Sega, Shadow is fucking dead regardless of your hackneyed deus ex machina retcon job.

Not saying the actual intent of the thread isn't obvious, but anyway: there's no point in calling a game "faux something" unless it's actually pretending to be that something in any way. Literally just not being based on straight out self-encapsulated levels doesn't imply an intent to be "Open World", and letting the player glimpse what they can't do or where they can't go yet isn't a meaningless design choice at all.

You may as well call it a 2D platformer "Faux 3D" because you can see a background but you can't go there

>t.
I suppose you would have preferred "it u" as it would be easier to ignore. Anyways, yeah the GB, GBC, GBA and DS all have good games in their own right and the only reason someone would disagree is because they have baby duck syndrome.

>Pronouncing hydro as "hydra"
It's a Japanese pun. Velocity in Japanese is pronounced ベ ロ シティ, not ベ ラ シティ
The actual sound of the pun is lost in translation as we pronounce velocity as /vəˈlɑsəti/ and not /vəˈloʊsəti/.
An "accurate" pronunciation would sound like "Hy-dro-cit-y", but the actual phonetic spelling needs some finagling as the "near-close near-front unrounded vowel" on 4chan is replaced by a capital J, likely as it was never expected to be used.
Instead replace the [] in the following phonetic segment with a near-close near-front unrounded vowel:
/ˈha[]droʊsəti/ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-close_near-front_unrounded_vowel))
>dross is gross
Enunciate, then.
>I can't read this weird shit
http://ipa-reader.xyz
>I'm not comparing phonetic writing
That's tacitly conceding
>I'm still saying hy-draw-city
You're allowed to be wrong
>I'm still gonna make threads about my incoherent interpretation of a Japanese pun
You're allowed to show everyone else you're wrong, too

Hy-dro-ci-ty. Not all slurred together like hyd-roc-ity. Enunciate.

It's called international phonetic alphabet, there's site applets that can pronounce them for you

/vr/ uses a mostly arbitrary (but agreed on) definition of "retro". What you seem to call faux retro is actually the proper usage of the term.

A better name for the board would be /vv/ - Vintage Video Games, but let's just not go there.
