It does seem like there were some good N64 wrestling games but I had gotten out of wrestling during the 90s until a girl got me back in, funnily enough. Wave Race and F-Zero X were just pale imitations for the kind of games that were in arcades - which is where we all went if we wanted to play arcade racers.

Playstation was what everyone had. N64 was for Nintendrones. They weren't called that back then but that's who had them, even if the decision to raise a little drone was made by the parents.

5th gen opened up the market to "normal" people who wouldn't have played 2D games but it wasn't very big because low poly but it existed. You're right though it wasn't until the 6th gen that it was named and marketed to directly
