Yeah the economy is way different.

In homm3, a capitol of almost any(I think there's like 1-2 exceptions where you're a few hundred short) can support the weekly dwelling cost.
While in homm2 you have to take care with your money and only buy what you can afford.
I loved liches as a kid, but god they're hard to justify considering their cost and low hp and how easy they die to spells.

I was playing with my nephew just a few days ago and our armies were basically just bone dragons+skeletons.
With 4 castles(2 of which were necromancers) I started buying up mummies and zombies.


Also buying unupgraded units and then upgrading them costs a lot more than just buying them upgraded.


Estates on your main heroes is nothing to scoff at in homm2 btw.
