Years ago I started a level hack for MM5. I'm not a "hacker", I used a level editor.

The idea was to make classic level design, but more challenging and exploiting the gimmicks of the game which I consider to be underused in the original game.

I have about 11 levels re-done (out of 13 or 14 I think?) but it's been untouched for years now.

Should I release it as such? I ran out of ideas and interest to finish it, and even I do it finish it someday which I'm not sure about, it won't be any time soon.

I started a MM5 levelhack years ago. I admit i know nothing and just used an editor, megaflex, which is a pretty good editor.

The idea is that i think MM5 is the worst MM on NES. The level design is terrible, flat and too easy. But I think it has potential and a lot more could be done with the assets of the game, that they could have done much more than what they did.

After making 10 stages I've lost all motivation for it though, even though not much is left to be done. I have little free time these days and when I have I'm usually too tired from work to be creative, and if then I've focused my creativity on making maps for another game instead; but I hope I can finish it someday.

MM9 is one of my all time fav games ever. It's everything great about classic MM games, with fanservice done right. It's obvious they took a lot of time to play the old games and analyze them in order to "get" what works or not.

In the old MM games, even the best ones like 3 or 4, there are always moments where quality drops for X or Y reason, whether it's small moments too like just a few enemy placement that aren't as tight. Well, MM9 doesn't, it's perfect.

MM5 is the worst. Everything about it is painfully average, it's like you might as well not be playing. It's a shame because the game had a lot of potential, for instance the gimmicks like the gravity reverse, they could have done wonders gameplay wise with this, but the game always stays at the surface with "straight line" level design, like the devs didn't even bother trying.
I started a level hack of MM5 exactly to try and to create good levels out of the game assets, because I'm sure the game COULD have been much better with what it has. But I made 10 stages and a half and never finished it even though I only need to make literaly 2 more stages;
