In 2021 unless the game is new in box will have corrosion or oxidation on the pins. Sure it might work but if you care about them working long into the future there going to need some basic maintenance. The corrosion can also cause the games to freeze or have glitches or it might just take alot of tries to get it to work. There's also ferrous rust that can cause deep scratches into the pins in the console. Now I'm hyper Autistic about cleaning my n64 games I take apart every single one and use pic related until I get about 85 percent of the oxidation off. Then I hit it with dexoit gold d100l to prevent fretting corrosion from happening in the future. It's alot of work but n64 is the only cartridge based system I have, if I had multiple cartridge systems I would probably just use dexoit d5 and q tips. N64 especially through is going to need better cleaning because of it's high speed bus, through the results speak for themselves all my n64 games work the first time.
