/vr/ - Retro Games

Would `pistol starting` be a thing if the original games loaded an autosave from the start of a level, instead of resetting your inventory and restarting the map?

I guess I'm just wondering just how core "pistol starting" is to the DOOM experience. And if PWADs are even generally designed with it in mind, or if they expect you to carry all your gear as the levels get harder.
