Demonstrably false. The first game was also on the PS2.

It is a shame only the PS2 version has all the characters. I don't think the newest announced release will have Dee.

I don't know, I really liked the Juri Han design. She is like a Jojo's character with unique colors and floofy pants. She stands out, as the one character where all the effort was placed into over the other new characters just as Cammy White was amazing in comparison to the other 3 characters she debuted with.

They charged an astounding 1200 Microsoft Points for 2 ROMs when the average new XBLA game was 800 Microsoft Points or 400 Microsoft Points when discounted. Overcharging when they had already released some pretty good ports already, the average person may not be interested. So they decided to hold Darkstalkers 4 hostage hinging on success of Resurrection, which would not happen under those conditions. When they finally admitted Resurrection undersold and thus cancelling 4, they still wouldn't discount it under 800MSP. So the blame is not on me, but Capcom setting it up for failure.

Bulletta/B.B.Hood is in MVC2. I think some of the characters made it into the Namco X Capcom line of games too. There are costumes in more recent games that reference the Vampire/Darkstalkers series.

That's a cool video. I missed out on those console exclusive features since the Saturn was my primary system in those days. I remember the game was cheap last I saw but I never picked it up. The animation cuts aren't that bad.

I don't think they are committed to any real solid storyline as the story presented is just the framework for the setting of the game and maybe interactions between the characters. With the large roster of characters, all of which is the main character of their own story, it is probably best to market the games this way as different people could main/use different characters. There's rooting interest for each as they did take the effort in designing them all.

I remember stories of James Goddard suggesting the design be based around the Universal monster movies. Even opened their eyes to the concept of a succubus over just a generic female vampire. Pretty much it was Capcom USA doing most the legwork in planning the games.

I'd rather use the MAME ROMs, but it is nice to have the Saturn/PSP/DC versions to include all characters for the Savior KI-styled gameplay rather than choosing which 3 characters are omitted/included in that style of play.

MAME is the easiest. However for best, I prefer the Saturn version, as it combines Savior 2 and Hunter 2 for an almost complete roster.

I think so, haven't seen much from the artist lately, but that could be because his art is not appreciated in my country. I cropped that Felicia image, but his rendition of Lilith would require a lot more cropping.

Strong arcade scene, high demand for more fighting games, enough economic freedom to explore new hardware and game systems, some of the best character designs Capcom has done pushed by to their best by CRMK/Bengus, amazing talent brought together for the project. Plus, at the time, with how strong Street Fighter 2 was dominating the videogame landscape, they didn't want to experiment using the main series in fear of damaging it, so it was less risky to try out new hardware (CPS2), new animation capabilities, art direction, and new mechanics (like air guarding) on a side project. The chaining and animated style did carry over to the Zero/Alpha and VS. series.

And Alex Jimenez for explaining what a succubus was to the Japanese.

I think I favor CRMK's art more, but Nishimura is really good too. Capcom had a lot of talented artists.

Keep it up! Good read for me, since I love the series. At least to me, I'm fascinated by the design process of the games I love.
