I play OG Game Boy on a smartphone, with a telescopic controller, stretched to the 19.5:9 aspect ratio of the smartphone, and a round cornered screen, with a LCD grid shader that RetroArch comes with. I'm sure this is what a bunch of the creators behind the Game Boy's classics intented me to play like. Jokes aside... just play, the "intended" way doesn't matter.

I never managed to get into Castlevania or even Metroid for some reason, only ever managed to enjoy smaller MetroidVanias, mainly Flash ones back then when Flash was common, though for some reason Spider-Man's few MetroidVanias in the 90's and 2000's managed to grab me, mainly TASM2 on Game Boy, I need to give the OGs of the genre a fair shot at some point though, also Pokémon, loved the anime and TCG as a kid, but never bothered to actually get into or finish any of the GB, GBC or GBA titles, I blame the OG GBA screen for that, really hated that thing back then.

Well, I've only used the MOCUTE-060 before, so far my experience has been decent for a cheap controller, but it still feels cheap, even if it's all still working for now, so if you want something with a better feel this isn't what I'd recommend, the ones most people seem to agree are more premium are the Backbone One, and the Razer Kishi V2, also GameSir X2 and GameSir G8 too.

Still, it's a gamble, this anon (>>10515072) had some really awful luck so far with the Backbone One, so even with these it's not 100% certain. I'd say check reviews online to get a broader view.

>What retro games are you gonna be playing this Christmas break, anon?
I want to finish The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for Game Boy, it was made by BITS Studios in 1992 and published by LJN, neither are good signs, but this one surprisingly holds up, it was the 1st real Spider-Man MetroidVania and I'm having fun with it, though it's difficult... hopefully I can pull it off.

What has everyone here been playing? I'm testing out some ROMs I had laying around that I've been curious about, mainly The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Game Boy, a sequel to Rare's title, that one actually felt pretty decent to play, this sequel was made by BITS and, while not as fun, it's interesting for being the 1st Spider-Man MetroidVania, there's also that GBC port of Neversoft's Spider-Man which functions as one, Mysterio's Menace on GBA has MetroidVania elements, and there's the DS stuff aswell, Spider-Man had tons of them.

I got an old action figure of mine for the photo, thought it'd be fun, I had a ton of bootleg figures of Spider-Man growing up, this one was exciting as a kid since it had a light int the middle, which Spider-Man would sometimes use at his 1994 animated series, though it doesn't work anymore, it's quite old afterall.
