I've been prejudiced against the VN genre because of their shitty harem anime tropes and them being books but told in really bad way.
I changed my mind a bit after I enjoyed Radical Dreamers though I would never play if not for connection with Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.

Any other old VNs I should know about?

is this any good? is it worth the time?

i loved Chrono Trigger and to an even greater extent, Cross. I've liked a few VNs like the dingdongrompa games and the zero escape titles. would i like radical dreamers?

what can i expect?
