What's a good way to start retro game collecting?

Do you still collect for any systems? I offloaded most of my home console games around 2016 and used the money to buy flashcarts (cheap Chinese clones, all of which still work 3 years later). I decided to keep collecting for portable consoles, as well as Atari 2600, though I'm thinking of letting my Game Boy collection go too. I'll be keeping my 2600 games though, I have around 50 carts, it was so cheap and easy to build up that it's almost not worth selling. Maybe in a few more decades they'll be in a museum. Or a landfill. It's hard to predict the future.
