I have, multiple times. I think Wolfenstein 3D is a good game, and I do enjoy it (and I love the cartoony aesthetics of the game, and the high speed gunfights), but it's also a VERY simple game, with very limited depth of gameplay, compared to Doom (or ROTT), which has magnitudes more complexity.

I really think that Wolfenstein 3D has gone through all of its mileage with the original three episodes, they do basically everything worthwhile with the limitations of the game. With the Nocturnal Missions, they start going into gimmick territory with level design, but there's the problem that the game doesn't let you do very much with levels, there's no height variation, there's no real up or down, there's no real use of moving walls (like with ROTT), and all the enemies are just dudes with hitscan weapons.

It kind of wears out its welcome, is how I feel, especially with obnoxious bullshit like hiding keys in secrets, like you'll see in the Nocturnal Missions.

I mean just wrap a belt of linked ammo around his torso and a machinegun to match, give him some pouches on his belt for ammo and other stuff, put on some good boots and then give him camo pants.

I mean classic B.J is halfway there. He's both a powerful action hero and beefcake.

Well, I'm a Wolfenstein 3D fan, but I'd argue that from a modern perspective, the game is best enjoyed in short portions (a level a day maybe), and that the game peaks with Episode 3.

The Nocturnal Missions are quite dry, and Spear Of Destiny, though better, doesn't do enough new things to be all that interesting either.
The Formgen expansions are trash.
The truly good Wolfenstein 3D stuff after that point is inventive mods people make with it, like Totenkopf SDL.

There's a certain appeal to the cartoony graphics, arcade-isms, and the simplicity of it all, but unlike games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Rise Of The Triad, it's not the kind where you can just blast through a dozen levels a day and then keep going for the rest of the week, because it's so exciting and you're having so much fun.
I think it'd probably be decent if you could port it to smartphones, and have a basic controller deck attached to it (it doesn't need a lot of buttons), because you could play a game like this while taking a shit.

My favorite part of the game was the Flamethrower (which was actually really powerful and realistic after upgrading), and the Mauser rifle.

Upgrading the Mauser for damage, accuracy, stripper clips, and the bayonet, and you had a weapon you could use basically for most infantry fighting.
Skip the scope and the silencer, just fire off rounds with loud booms and stab Germans with your bayonet. The most fun way to do this is to use the slowmo magic and then sprint in to slit the throats of dozens of German soldiers, then hearing them all gurgle blood in near unison as you exit slowmo.

It's not a great game, but it's got a few good points to it. I think if a mod team could take all of the assets and make their own campaign with it, and do some tweaking, you could make a pretty good game. I think some of the levels are kind of weak, and obviously the story and characters could be way less boring (or omitted entirely, for just pure gameplay).

There'll be a new enemy in the second episode, and the levels will look a little different at times.

Wolf 3D is a very basic game though (very arcadey), and it's more something I'd suggest you pick it up to play maybe one or two levels a day for some quick fun, rather than sitting through all of it in one go.
