DQ2 is pretty good, I like it about the same as Final Fantasy 1 and Phantasy Star 1
Mind you I only played the Gameboy port, not the Famicom version

My main worry is the seals which I hear are really obscure. I preffer not to use guides but I would rather use one then waste time.

I've played 1, 2 4 and 5.

I've enjoyed them all immensely. Still, even with how short it is, 1 can still be too boring and grindy. Plus, dying to the Dragon Lord and having to start all the way from the castle... yeah, fuck that. Also I appreciate 2 for what it is and what it brought to the genre (and as a matter of fact I enjoyed it a lot more than 1) but man, some parts are just ridiculous. That confusing cave before Rhone and that plain with those ridiculous enemies just afterwards: the strongest of the game, without hyperbole. Damn.

4 and 5 were pretty good overall. Loved the music and the variety in 4, and 5 was just a joy to play, you don't get a class system, but alternating monsters with humans is a lot of fun. This might be just me, but I adore the villains and final bosses in these games so far, and I don't know exactly what it is. The Dragon Lord, that son of a bitch Ladja, Psaro (was he Sephiroth before Sephiroth or was that a DS thing?). And I thought Hargon summoning Sidoh as he dies was great too. Neat stuff.

If I had to chose the one I enjoyed the most I guess I'd say 2 (the SNES version) because not only was it a compelling journey on its own, pretty much open-ended after you get the boat, but at all times you can see stuff that game pretty much introduced to the genre, it feels like playing a piece of history. I love that feeling. And I can't wait to play 3 and 8.

DQ5 is amazing! The story is not really that original, but it's told in a great way, and stuff never stops happening. You go from having an adventure in the kingdom of the fairies to having your dad murdered in front of your eyes. The party system is also fantastic, and that son of a bitch of a villain it has made the whole generational struggle so memorable. Loved to hate him.
