Am I the only one who actually likes the standard purple GameCube? I think it looks cool and unique.

what are some good beginner-friendly GameCube games that I can play with my 8 year old niece? she loves vidya but she's only ever played smartphone/tablet apps, she doesn't have much experience with traditional controllers. she says she wants to play Mario but the only Nintendo home console I have is a softmodded Wii that has Melee and Wind Waker

I like the cube, and I'm going through another autistic phase where I want more gamecube games even though prices are fucked in 2023. I can obviously just emulate, but owning the games is nice, too.

The best you can say about it is that it let you play Prime 4 years before everyone got a Wii.

I was there, and I don't recall it being mocked all that much (even online). Most of the shit-flinging was between the PS2 and Xbox camps.

Behold one of the best-selling consoles of all time. More total unit sales than both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 individually.
This is because the backwards compatibility feature of the nintendo Wii was complete, as opposed to incomplete/emulation.
The Xbox 360 cannot be considered an original Xbox, because it cannot play every original Xbox game. The PS3 with full backwards compatibility should be counted also as a PS2 sale. The Wii with GCN-disc compatibility should be counted as a GCN, even if it cannot use certain GCN peripherals, such as the Game Boy Player, as there are versions of the Wii which cannot use some Wii peripherals, such as an SD card. Peripheral compatibility is irrelevant; hardware-level game-running compatibility is all that should count when counting hardware sales.
Before the Wii Family Edition was released in October 2011, the wii had sold 75 million units. This added to the ~20M units of the GCN, plus some reasonable spare change of <5M for original wii sales after 2011 to be assumed, place the GCN above the 100M hardware sales mark.
Of course this is not to say that Nintendo had two successful consoles:
The GCN sold 100M, and the Wii in isolation from the GCN can be said to have sold considerably less.
All Wii U's had Wii backwards compatibility, and many Wii's didn't have GCN. ~15M Wii U's + ~100M Wiis - ~75M GCN compatible Wiis = 40 Million Wii Sales.
