Completely worth the trade-off, tbqh. The first Metal Slug is more than 20 years old now, and even the subsequent sequels that were released well into the 2000's were able to keep the exact same art style because the sprites have aged so well that they're practically timeless. The games all look phenomenal, and in its own unique way, the slowdown almost adds to the experience because it happens when there is a lot of action the screen; in a way, it gives it a cool "slow motion" effect

It's obvious and doesn't really need to be stated at this point, but the sprites in the Metal Slug games are nothing short of extraordinary.

How/why are they so good? What went so right at SNK when it came to the sprites for these games?
