I'll agree if this wasn't a franchise, but this game relied on good animation and decent gameplay mechanics, unlike the first one, that's just a hentai fighter.

The character design made the hitboxes a little weird, if you are used to SF2 hitboxes, but it's not more of a SF2 clone than all of the other 2D fighting games of his time.

It has a surprisingly balanced rooster and cool specials, and I think it gets overlooked for having an all female cast.
