I hear roguelike-type randomization implies a deceptively complex code architecture; I'm not sure if consoles would have been able to handle this sort of thing back then.

Yes, I actually loved Super Pitfall, or rather the potential it had for greatness. I love the huge map and assorted obstacles. The premise itself it just great. You're thrown into some really hostile environment with only a few bullets to fend off bats, snakes, spiders, and some ghost shit.

At least we have spleunky now.
