It's a hard game anon. Tried it myself recently and was just not up for the challenge. These games didn't really get good until Gaiden it seems

1 and CD are pretty easy. 2 is tame until the final boss, we all got stuck on the barrel in 3.

What's more interesting to me is that if my math is correct, OP was born in 1997, which means he was gifted a Genesis in 2003, long after the Dreamcast had already come and gone. Which makes me wonder was it an og Genesis model. or one of the later TecToy variants?

I had a GameCube growing up but as an adult I prefer Dreamcast. It's just a really cool console even outside of the Sonic and first-party games. Tons of great shmups and fighting games that the GameCube never got. GameCube does have the Super Monkey Ball games, Sonic compilations, and F-Zero GX, but I think Dreamcast has a more interesting history and SEGA is just a more interesting company in general.

>no Aladdin Genesis
>no Vectorman
>not a single Sonic game
What's the point in all of these hidden gems if you don't even have the essentials?

The one thing I like about Sonic 1 is that it doesn't peak near the beginning of the game. Sonic 2's best stages are probably Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, and Casino Night Zone depending on who you talk to. Sonic 1 saves Spring Yard and Star Light Zone for later in the game. CD also does this with Stardust Speedway and it works great because it gives you some incentive to keep playing towards the end. Plus it has a great ending theme and FMV

A Ranks aren't worth it even for Green Hill Zone, though I'm hearing some of them are worse the GameCube version which is the one I played

I still have my childhood SNES, Genesis Model 1, and PS1, and recently (last year) acquired a Genesis 2 and a PSOne. I got a RetroDuo in 2010 and an FC-16 Go the following year, not as "backups" though, I feel like that's kind of obsessive. At least buy different models and not the same exact one

This is borderline not /vr/ honestly. They don't really have anything that caters to /vr/ interests anymore, the last time they did that was probably when they had the Genesis Mini or the PS Classic. Now it's just back to boring modern games and a small handful of PC accessories. Their physical stores never seem to carry Hyperkin, Retro-Bit, or 8bitdo products, and they never even have cool stuff like the Famiclone handhelds you can buy from Walmart or Five Below. Pretty much it's just a store for modern gamers now. And Pop Vinyl collectors, for some reason

I wouldn't go that far. Most of the first party games and stuff by Capcom is solid, similar to N64 with first party and Rare/Midway games. Neither of them have as many as PS1 though
