Here's the thing: our society has become obsessed with convenience to the point that emotional value is no longer a factor in how we go about our daily lives.

Let me use an example of what I mean. Let's say you take your child to the store, you buy them a new toy, take them out for ice cream, spend the day with them, talk to them about how their school is going, etc. Now, chances are, the toy you bought them could have been purchased 25% cheaper on Amazon and that $4 ice cream cone isn't much different than an entire tub you could have bought at the store for the same price. So, from a purely economic standpoint, it doesn't make sense to do these things... but, the few dollars you waste, are they worth more than the memories you make by actual interacting the world and spending qualit ytime? You go out, you see people, you make memories, you have conversations, you have experiences. It's similar to the old saying, "the reward is the journey, not the destination". For me, I would rather waste a little extra money and have memories that I could cherish than to have limitless access to meaningless things.

Let me tell you, as shit as a company like Blockbuster was, it wasn't the same as Netflix. You can call me a retarded nostlagiafag and that's fine, but browsing through the movies on Netflix is not the same thing as driving with your friends and family to the store, walking in and smelling the intoxicating aroma of plastic, candy and carpet, wandering through the isles of games and movies and taking it home and enjoying it with a slice of pizza. It is not the same fucking thing at all.

That is what our culture is beginning to realize. At some point, convenience ruins atmosphere, memories and experiences. I sincerely hope that we can find a nice balance of the two, because I don't want to live in a world where the only resources are Amazon and Wal-Mart.

This game is shit. Quake 1 is better in every conceivable way, and this is coming from someone that played 1 after 2. Q1 actually had a cool universe and lore, and the art design had a scummy, rusty, dirty, medieval feel that no other shooter since has captured. With Q2, they ditched that vibe and dived right into generic space marine territory. What a fucking waste. The guns got it the worst -- compare the two Q1 shotguns to the Q2 shotguns, who the fuck designed those ugly masses of shit? Gibs weren't nearly as satisfying either.

Had they stuck with the "guns and castles" theme, Quake could have turned into an awesome series. Instead, it turned into one good SP shooter and one good arena shooter, with every other entry being dirt -- especially the abomination known as Quake 4.
