I STRONGLY suggest you get an SD card adapter and install DreamshellOS on to it, so you can load games through the serial port instead of on a game disc.
The Dreamcast has a notoriously bad disc drive that goes bad really fast (especially if you use burned discs)

It's your call really, but just FYI, GDEMU doesn't bypass any region-protection, nor can it force VGA mode.
In terms of loading screens, they go almost as fast as Dreamshell with an IDE hard drive, but not quite. Personally, I would suggest going with the SD card adapter. It's slower, but cheaper, and Dreamshell has way more features, being an OS and all.

Probably. I know that it has gotten a lot faster with every release since RC1, so I can only guess that RC4 will be even faster than the current release.

You'd have to put some work into it, but if you tweek the laser just enough to read burned discs (not real discs, that'll damage the things) you can CD boot into Dreamshell, then, after performing the BIOS mod, you can install the bootloader to the console itself. Then just buy yourself a SDcard adapter and run all your games from there.
(or do the IDE mod. way more work. I guess you could also buy GDEMU. Good luck with that).
