Pic related is an awesome game, with a unique gimmick.

MUSHA is another good one, along with Granada(though those mechs are more tank-likes), and Metal Warriors(which should go without question).

Pic related can be beaten in about an hour and has infinite continues. You have the option of playing through a second time on brutal difficulty but the first playthrough should be easy once you get used to the control scheme

While possibly not the hardest, i used the v gauntlet randomizer to find a nes game to play a week or two ago and got given metal storm. Had never heard of it before but decided to give it a go. It's a pretty fun mech platformer (two things i'm not usually into) i'm enjoying it but jesus christ it's brutal.

one hit kills you, and although thankfully you don't have to start the whole game again when you run out of lives the level design is so unforgiving that it's incredibly difficult not to just get fucked up repeatedly. One of the key gameplay features is to switch gravity, which as you can imagine adds a good layer of complexity to a standard platform shooter.

I managed to beat the game last night after hundreds of deaths and now i'm playing through on expert mode and have already died 20+ times without getting past the first boss. Expert mode adds more enemies while also improving them, and also gives bosses extra ways to kill you.

It's incredibly rewarding when you beat a level but after not getting hit once for a whole stage my heart almost comes out of my chest whenever i'm in a boss fight.

You should check it out if you like a challenge!

I think it's funny that people today can't get Metal Storm for a good price. I got it from a Game Crazy about 5 or 6 years ago for 50 cents. Had no clue what it was and just bought it for the art.

Glad I got it.

Now what I'll never be able to afford is Demon's Crest.

Playing this right now. It's pretty cool.

it's already $60-$70+ cart only, but it's a very good game that is rare as fuck. good luck ever finding one in the wild, I've looked for over and decade and a half and have NEVER seen a copy in the wild. I think it's rarity is underrated, from my experience it's about as rare as the later NES Taito games.
