>I have a big soft spot for GT Final Bout l being the first DBZ game I played; plus love the goofy localization and beam battles
It wasn't my first DBZ game (that'd probably be either Butoden 2 or Buyu Retsuden), but I have nostalgia for Final Bout... however, mostly have nostalgia for the intro FMV, which is still one of the best animated things in Dragon Ball in general, but the actual game, I always knew it sucked.
To be fair, 5th gen Dragon Ball games were all pretty shit, Legends being the only decent one.

Yeah, Legends is the best 5th gen DBZ game.
Unique game system, it's repetitive and mostly resorts to buttonmash, but it actually makes a good job at representing DBZ fights.
The battle against the androids was the only challenging part in the game, since it was the only one that was 3 vs 3.
The presentation was excellent, it has that particular magic that I feel Super Butoden 2 also had in its story mode.

It's really janky, but the amount of characters was mind-blowing for the time.

The soundtrack for Super Butoden games (and most other retro DBZ game) was kind of magical though. I love Gohan's piano theme. I think it's fitting for a fighting game, not in a traditional sense, but it has a lot of tension.
The only Butoden 2 track that I think doesn't sound like it's for fighting is Zangya's theme

But at the same time I love that contradiction in listening to a comfy track while blasting ki beams.
Also, everyone who likes the DBZ vidya OST needs to listen to the DBZ Hit Collection series CDs, especially volumes 10 to 13 or so, the ones produced by Project Monolith.

What song from the Beatles?
Not aware of what classical composers did he rip either, but ripping off classical music isn't that uncommon.
I still believe the only reason why people noticed the "rip off" is because Yamamoto himself admitted to have been ripping music iirc. People only started noticing then, and that's also when Toei removed all of his soundtrack for Kai, and video games.
Personally, I think most musicians rip off each other, there's a lot of similar sounding melodies and scales or chord progression or rhythms if you care enough to notice it. It's hard to do an original thing in this day and age.

Yamamoto was, first and foremost, a musical arranger, and a pretty damn good one at that. He's responsible for the arranges (not the composition) of Cha-La-Head-Chala.
He was also the main responsible sound director of the video games, and I think everyone can agree he did a brilliant job at it. I mean, we idolize Yuzo Koshiro and it's also been proven that almost the entire SOR soundtrack is actually a ripoff of some other techno or house track from the late 80s and early 90s. But people still like Yuzo because his main ability wasn't composing, but the way he made it sound, the technical aspect of it. The same can be said about Yamamoto. Also, I'm not sure but he might not be the only person contributing the compositions. He was the director, but I think at the time of the Butoden games releases, he had a group called Monolith, which various different musicians. They were also responsible for the music on the DBZ Hit Song Collection series (at least the ones between 1990 and 1994 or so).

Completely agreed.

I won't defend him, since he himself admitted to have ripped off music, but honestly? the songs he supposedly "ripped off" don't sound exactly the same. I think it's really a stretch to say the Cell theme from SB2 sounds like that one Pink Floyd song, only the bassline at the beginning sounds somewhat similar, and only vaguely. It's more he's been influenced by the song, rather than completely ripping it off.

But I digress. Yamamoto is still a good composer, but most of all, he's an even better arranger and producer.

It's a shame, really.

The recent release of Super Butoden 2 on 3DS (which came with Extreme Butoden pre-order) has completely different music.

It's not bad, but it pales in comparison to the original.

Where? When Dragon Ball (not Z) started airing where I live, everyone got into it because of its quirky humor and awesome action scenes. Then DBZ was seen as a more epic (in the actual sense of the word) version of it, and more adults were drawn to it thanks to the violence and cuhrazey factor, but most of Dragonball's "adult" or pervert humor is actually found on DB, when Goku was a kid.

I'm >>985573, and while SB2 is my favorite DBZ game, Legends is up there on my favorites too, so unique and cool.
