It wasn't really rushed, it took a long time to come out but with a game as big as that back then there weren't really ways to test some things before release. But to me a rough start that leads to a great game in the end is way better than a just good game that gets released finished but not as perfect as it could be.

If anything, the proof is in the pudding in that with Tribes 1 the late fame was almost all mod servers because that was what was most fun. But in Tribes 2 it was so much better balanced eventually that even big mods like Shifter never caught on as much and most just played vanilla servers or slight mods.
