I really, really like the overall look of FF7, especially the chibi look of the overworld models. But I'll never understand why people praise the FMV today like it's something special. It may have been an accomplishment when it was new, but it just doesn't look very good today while the rest of the game totally does to me. Pic related just gives me the creeps. The whole sequence does, really. And to me, that extra technical prowess doesn't amount to instant praise when it ultimately would have lasted better if it had been hand drawn or something. The 3D FMV sold damn well, and I know that's what they were going for, but it still bugs me.
Then again, people do mod in higher poly models for the overworld, which just looks awful to me. I guess I'm in the minority. Whatever.
