Same! Its an older photo and the GDM has since passed, but the IBM keyboard still works great. I too wish they made hardware like they used to, but they don't. Also, afaik the IBM series CRT of the op's is a rebadged trinitron.

>especially older DOS games
But is there software fixes (patches) to resolve this? One of my bigger issues with Fallout4 is that I was unable to find any way to keep the game from running at 90fps, and it certainly causes issues.

That is interesting, but with dos it doesn't surprise me. Is this more tied to the massive power of the CPU/GPU able to run the games in an out of control speed? Is there a software fix for these things? I have not enjoyed any contemporary games. I have plodded through. However, I learned to lock a few at 60fps internally, while still rendering 120fps vsync'd. There are software hacks for some of these games to do this, and (Dark Souls) was the one really was a diamond when using a few simple fixes.

Both Blood and Duke 3d run on a "Build" engine. With source code being available, Id imagine there to be some "modern" fix for issues.

But the flip side is that a 144hz lcd can be set to run at 60hz through the OS.

I never did much Dos gaming, and my experience with dos was limited to qbasic programming in high school. If you are running DOS games through a VM/Dosbox, would it be helpful in resolving these issues?

Thanks for the response & sorry if I sounded like a dick. /vr/ is one of the better forums for sharing info on this website. I have regular conversations about the pros and cons of labor rights in other places, and getting anything but emotional pleas requires teeth pulling and insults. I know we all have thick skin around here, but I am a dick at times for assuming everyone is just operating on that m.o.

I gave myself a month without my GDM Fw900. I moved it upstairs and away from my desk. I have been using this 144hz lcd (Asus 24"). I just commented to the wife that I am going to have to get the beast back out again. I can't stand lcd. This is just terrible. Games look like crap, and the colors are just slightly off. I do calibrate the GDM every few years, but still....I would think that a nearly 2 decade old monitor shouldn't be able to compete with LCDs, but it can, and does...and it blows the doors off.

Why do I listen to dweebs on the internet? The only thing that LCDs are good for is text clarity. I will be reverting to a dual monitor setup like I had previously (pic related). Don't believe the lies anons. LCDs are shit. You either get good colors and motion blur, or shit colors and next to no motion blur. I don't care how much space and electric the GDM takes up. It makes perfect colors and no motion blur at refresh rates that allow for spectacular motion sickness. (1280x800@140hz is AMAZING)

>Great monitor, would love to run across one in the wild someday. FW900 does support sync on green so you should be able to just plug the RGB output of any console running in 480p (probably not the component though)
I was lucky enough 14 years ago to find a graphic design stuidio that had gone under 2 hours from home. I picked the best one they had, and it cost me $100. Best computer purchase I have ever made. If you can find a good one, they are really worth it. I would pay in upwards of $500 now for a good one without question. I keep buying lcd monitors because I believe the fuss about them...and every single one I have given away. I remember giving my mother-in-law a 27" gaming monitor the other year. She is in her mid 80s, so appreciates the viewing space. They just don't compare. I use a 144hz 24" for shitposting, and big-daddy for gaming. (pic related) the PC in the photo is just a monitor riser.

Thanks for the great info on hooking up to this monitor. You pretty much gave me the quick rundown on everything I imagined:

>RGB would work directly to the monitor
>None of the options I would like it for support RGB.

I would like to keep my xbox with component. I know of a mod that allows for VGA output (DE-15), and again, I would like to keep it connectable to a tv primarily. I don't have a ps2 yet, and am looking to upgrade lol...but IF I get a ps2, It would be the only thing I could see me using it for....I have to do some research about PS2 + hard drive + psx games from backup. That is a conversation for another thread however.

Thanks for the contributions to this thread. There is lots of great info you dropped that may seem simple to you, but is very very enlightening to a Yankee burger like me.

>Go to metacritic and filter by Wii releases and see if I'm exaggerating.
I have a backup loader on my wii. I have kids that are teenagers at this point, so when they gave up the wii for the PC, I was able to mod it. We did purchase every single game that was good for 1-4 players. I think it filled up 75gb or less on my backup drive. Adding all the bullshit "Lets dance" games that the daughter and wife demanded was another 20gb. I have 35 games taking up 92gb of space on the Wii backup drive.....Meanwhile the actual ISO are 4.3 gb each...a few are larger, but ISO backups of the same games is over 160gb. The dance ones really take up space.....

I am using this 100gb ssd because it is just what I had laying around. Someone going crazy about collection certainly wants some bonkers huge 10tb external, but its going to be a power hog, and full of wasted space. The average person could easily live with 500gb or less.

Wii was full of shovelware, no different then the other systems of the era. I hated how Nintendo ruined every game with controller effects. I hated what they did with the gc games. They ruined donkey kong jungle beat.

>I don't have the space for a server
>35 gigs.
I gotcha. It is still worth having some sort of backup solution for essential items. A 2 drive raid in a simple mini pc is very capable of safe long term storage and access. You can even just ethernet jack it right into your PC if you use wireless for the pc.....Pic related is an old shot of my 4tb server under my monitor before it got moved to an out of the way corner. I don't get into preservation however, and I understand your desire for space.

>Did you forget that 1280x960 and 1600x1200 monitors were thousands and hardly went above 70hz at that res??
I have ONLY ever had CRT up until I bought this piece of shit 144hz Asus bullshit. I still saved my GDM FW900....Thank god, because this lcd is shit.

But what I was going to say is that I don't think you understand how CRTs work. Sure you can look at them at face value and say "They only offer 70 hz"....That is great and that logic is fair, however it takes less then 10 seconds to alter the refresh rate in the menu.

I have had plenty of 1600x1200 monitors, and NEVER has one run lower then 85hz. You can also do fun stuff like lowering the resolution and increasing the frequency more. When LCDs came out, 20"+ CRT monitors were in massive supply and no demand. At one point I had 2x IBM trinitrons on my desk. $20 a piece.

As example: My GDM-Fw900 offers me 140hz @ 1280x800. At no place is it listed in the manual, and in addition my GPU specifically states that it only offers analog resolutions to 2048x1536, but that doesn't stop my monitor from working just fine at 2560x1600 @ 60 hz.

Protip for you: CRTs run at a higher refresh rate then the manual calls for....unless you have some no-name chink bullshit....and in that case you might as well use a good tv. There are very few CRTs that wont do 640x480p at 100+ hz.

>>4975496
>I believe it was capable of more but the reduced refresh rate made my eyes hurt.
Probally 1280x1024 as a "native" resolution.

And mothballs. I love BabbageGramps, and I had to add that odor for your imagination.

>t was bought in 2004 for 750€
Thats actually one of the newer ones? It should do 1600x1200 @ 85-90hz no problem. It should also do 640x480 by something outrageous like 200hz. Thats a nice one, and you got a really good one that is still fresh. I would love to get 2 matching sony 4:3 1600x1200 for my setup, but that would be too much weight and electric. My sony is a 2001, and it could use a refresh.

>most people who are "really into PC gaming" are way too young to know what a CRT monitor is, emulate and think the laggy input through dosbox is just how it's supposed to be.

They have no ideas the joys they miss.

>I'm sure most in this thread, being the video enthusiasts we are, have a fine OLED/LED/LCD display as well

This is how I use my Asus 144hz lcd full time. It makes the internet better.
