That's why the octopus is there in the second level, although you can go fast, really the game is much more about being slow and careful. But I fully understand people not digging it. For me I'm happy it is the way it is and not more like a dolphin themed Sonic or something. If you never tried it but are curious, the sequel is more action heavy , but it's fundamentallyrics a similar game.

This masterpiece of 16-bit music and graphics.

It's one of my all-time favourite games, in spite of the fact that the gameplay is janky and often frustrating. The aesthetics are just that strong.

Sonic 1 came with my Genesis and I didn't like it at all so I never even tried 2 or 3. I was too busy with Ecco 2 and Earthworm Jim.

It's interesting, I love old games partly because I grew up playing them and developed a lot of fondness. But I also really love a lot of new games and probably play modern stuff a lot more than old. How much of that is novelty though I can't say. If I woke up tomorrow with all the gaming memories scrubbed from my brain would it change my ratio of gaming I wonder. Would I put down Red Dead 2 for Ecco again?

Genesis does have a lot of stinkers though. All systems do. But almost all systems have also had a bunch of good games and those are all that matters.

Choosing or thinking you should choose between the genesis and the snes is for fools.
