My age group didn't play wii for more than smash bros, if that. They had xbox. Wii wagglin wasnt appealing to most. But past that, what you most often hear is the comolaint that it is too linear and not open enough. You can take my word for it, it's mostly people who started with OoT and use it as a gold standard, where you had a lot of empty 3d space to travel that wasnt water. When I played SS, I was older, and appreciated that the devs werent wasting my time, but OoT was good for when it came out. But I would still insist to you that LttP is the definitive Zelda. It created a majority of the tropes still used today. It also doesnt have any glaring flaws, just strong gameplay and polished style. You can say many nice things about OoT, but it has some obvious drawbacks, and other 3d zeldas improved on many of OoT's aspects. But I would also argue that definitive mario is 2d as well. I recommend you play the original LoZ, btw, although it may not be your thing.

Because I can remember the good and the bad memories, I don't idealize the past, though I do have fondness for a lot of it, Link's Awakening being one of those many things.
The good thing about video games is that you form memories with them in different times. Last time I played this game I was super depressed, and revisiting my old friends in Koholint sure was a nice oasis. Now, years later, I'm a lot better in every way, could even say I am happy, so I might start a new file today. Let's make a new memory.

Gameplay is good, map design is excellent, NPCs, events, dialogues are all soulful and witty, even emotional in nuanced ways. Koholint Island is a place you want to live in and that is worth fighting for... and yet the beauty of it is that in order to "save" it, you have to leave it. The concept it's so simple yet it gives a special spin to the "it was all a dream!" cliché. Excellent storytelling through a seamless action-adventure masterpiece.
