Precisely, I can't understand why people expect a 20 year old game to retroactively update itself to conform to modern standards. Judging a game in historical context is important, that or not having impossibly high standards.

The stages look a bit generic because it was the first N64 game, it was one of the first true 3D platformers. In terms of consistent physics the game is excellent and you have a ton of movement options to accomplish the tasks which are varied enough to keep the game interesting for at least 70 stars.

Regarding OP's topic. The original Super Mario Bros 2 would have been nice to have as an option. I like Mario 2, but having both would have been better. I understand why Nintendo decided not to release it until the SNES here, bu choice trumps no choice.

Hagane is surprisingly good. Also Super Bomberman 1 or 2 is great with a multi-tap. Sparkster, Plok, and E.V.O. have been mentioned yet either.
